UPCOMING: RHCA to host candidate forum for state senator, other local positions

Candidates seeking election to represent Rose Hill in the Virginia State Senate, along with various other local offices, are on the agenda for the Rose Hill Civic Association meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, in the community rooms of the John Marshall Library. State offices are of great importance as they affect each of us directly and form the basis for Fairfax County laws and ordinances.

If you missed the Franconia District Supervisor Forum earlier this month, a video of the meeting on our website shows incumbent Rodney Lusk and challengers Paul Beran and Mark T. Welch each making presentations and answering questions from community members. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7. The polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Rose Hill Elementary School. Early voting starts Thursday, October 26, at the Franconia Government Center, 6121 Franconia Road, daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Also on the agenda for the October 24 RHCA meeting is an update on plans to build 173 townhouses at the former Top Golf site in Kingstowne on South Van Dorn Street. A proposal submitted by EYA LLP calls for an increase in the number of residential units allowed under the current comprehensive plan and may be used to justify a similar request to build apartments at the Rose Hill Plaza shopping center. Your voice is important!
